Lesson Fifteen: Choosing a House

Choosing a house with good feng shui is an important decision that affects the occupants’ fortune, health, and family harmony.

I. External Environment Considerations
1. Architectural Arrangement of the Four Directions
– Zhuque Position : It should be open, symbolizing no obstacles in front, a broad view, which is beneficial for career development and wealth accumulation. If there are tall buildings in front causing a sense of oppression, it can hinder career progress.
– Xuanwu Position : A backing mountain is needed, with a solid building or natural mountain behind being ideal, representing strong support and reliance, making life and work more stable. If the back is empty and unsupported, it can lead to a lack of security and unstable fortunes.
– Qinglong Position : The building on the left should be tall, as Qinglong represents good fortune from influential people. A tall building on the left symbolizes strong support from influential people, making career and interpersonal relationships smoother. If the building on the left is low or empty, it can lead to a lack of support and slow career development.
– Baihu Position : The building on the right should be lower, as Baihu represents side fortune. A high building on the right can suppress Baihu, affecting side fortune. If the building on the right is too high, it can damage side fortune, leading to financial loss.

2. Avoiding External Negative Influences
– Bidaosha : Be aware if nearby buildings form Bidaosha, where sharp corners or edges point directly at the residence, which can bring disputes and health issues.
– Fangongsha : If nearby roads form a reverse bow shape, it can create Fangongsha, hindering fortune and causing family discord. Measures such as adjusting door and window positions or setting up barriers can be taken to mitigate this.
– Jiaosha : If the sharp corner of a building points directly at the residence, forming Jiaosha, it can lead to accidents and health problems. Measures such as setting up barriers or adjusting door and window positions should be taken to mitigate this.
– Chuanshinsa : If the residence is at a road intersection with traffic lights pointing directly at it, forming Chuanshinsa, it can cause mental tension and unstable fortune. Consider changing the residence or taking measures to block it.

II. Internal Layout Selection
1. Appropriate Brightness
– Avoiding Too Dark : Darkness may be due to external buildings blocking light or poor window design, which can lead to insufficient energy intake, affecting health and fortune. If external buildings block light, consider changing the residence; if it’s a window design issue, increase the number or size of windows.
– Avoiding Too Bright : Excessive brightness may be due to no external blockage or too many large windows, which can lead to insufficient energy retention, affecting health and mood. Use curtains or blinds to regulate light and maintain appropriate indoor brightness.
– Windows in Bathrooms and Kitchens : These areas have strong water and fire energy, so they must have windows to release this energy. Otherwise, health issues like strokes and headaches can arise.

2. Square Layout
– Avoiding Missing Corners : The more and larger the missing corners, the more severe the feng shui issues. Use the Bagua chart to determine the impact of missing corners on family members and take remedial measures, such as adding corresponding elemental items to compensate for energy. However, if the missing area is more than half or two-thirds, the remedial effect is limited, and it’s best to avoid choosing such a residence.
– Avoiding Triangular Layouts : Triangular layouts have many missing corners, which can adversely affect the body’s energy field and cause disasters like bloodshed and fire hazards. They should be firmly avoided.

3. Rational Functional Layout
– Location of Bathrooms and Kitchens : Avoid placing them at the front or center, as it can affect the overall feng shui layout. They should not face the main door to prevent privacy exposure or financial loss, and should be placed in more secluded locations.
– Living Room Location : The living room is the first space to interact with the outside world and should be close to the main door to attract positive energy. The size should be moderate, neither too large nor too small, to facilitate the circulation and retention of energy.

4. Door and Passage Positions
– Avoiding Door-to-Door : Doors facing each other can create a clash, affecting energy retention. For example, the front and back doors of a villa or the entrance and balcony doors of an apartment can be resolved by setting up partitions or adjusting door positions.
– Avoiding Excessive Corridors : Too many corridors can waste space and affect energy flow. Long corridors can form a rushing energy, affecting family harmony. Corridors should be as simple as possible, avoiding too many twists.
– Staircase Position : Staircases should not face the entrance door directly, as it can cause energy to rush straight to the staircase, forming a money-scattering pattern. They should also not be designed in the center of the layout or in areas requiring quiet.

5. Space Layout with Primary and Secondary Areas
– Living Room and Bedrooms : The living room should be larger than bedrooms to highlight its importance in the family.
– Master Bedroom and Secondary Bedrooms : The master bedroom should be larger than secondary bedrooms to reflect the owner’s status and comfort.
– Bedrooms and Bathrooms : Bedrooms should be larger than bathrooms to ensure comfort and privacy.

III. Indoor Arrangement Adjustments
1. Furniture Placement
– Sofa and Bedhead : They should have a backing, following the relationship between Qinglong and Baihu, avoiding sharp corners or beams overhead.
– Cooking Stove Position : Place it according to the kitchen layout, avoiding facing doors or windows directly or being opposite the bathroom to prevent water and fire clash.

2. Decorative Items Placement
– Animal-Shaped Decorations : Place them according to the direction, such as placing auspicious animals in the Qinglong position, and be cautious with the Baihu position.
– Zodiac Decorations : Pay attention to the relationship with your own zodiac sign, avoiding placements that clash or harm, to prevent affecting fortune.

3. Annual Layout
– Boosting Auspicious Stars : According to the flight position of the auspicious stars in the current year, take corresponding measures to boost them, such as placing lucky items or adjusting colors.
– Neutralizing Malevolent Stars : Pay special attention to the flight positions of the Five Yellow and Two Black malevolent stars, and take corresponding neutralizing measures, such as placing neutralizing items or adjusting furniture positions. Replace the corresponding neutralizing directions after the beginning of spring each year.
